HAMREN: Along with the rest of the country, an event was organised in line with the Meri Mati Mera Desh Program in the district of West Karbi Anglong in Assam.

The event was organised in several schools in the district of West Karbi Anglong. These schools included the Hongkram High School, Kuthepi Adasha Vidyalaya, Kolonga High School, Telehor High School, Keroni High School and Doyamukh High School under the Rangkhang Development Block.

Additional District Commissioner Himadri Sekhar Bordoloi and President of the West Karbi Anglong District Unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party Rodip Ranghang also attended the event which saw the presence of several other dignitaries. The event began with the lighting of the traditional lamp and the dignitaries offering their homages to the martyrs of the region. The students and teachers of the schools which participated in the event also took an oath during the event.

Meanwhile, the Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) has welcomed the recent decision of the State Cabinet to give headmaster status to the senior-most Lower Primary School teachers of schools that have 150 or more students with full pay scales and the DDO (Drawal and Disbursal Officers) for the head teacher in charge of schools that have below 150 students.

In its August 2 sitting, the State Cabinet took this decision on the long-standing demand of the LP school teachers of the state. In a tweet after the Cabinet decision, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, "Assam Cabinet decides: All in-charge Head Teachers of LP Schools with enrolment 150+ will become regular HT with the pay scale of Rs. 14000-60500 + Grade Pay Rs. 7600. The post will be created by upgrading the Senior Most Asst. Teacher.

"The Head Teacher in charge of LP Schools with 100-149 enrolments will be vested with DDO power and function. Such an HT in-charge will get a charge allowance of Rs. (300+500) = Rs. 800. These HT in-charges will be upgraded to full-fledged HT once they achieve 150 enrolments. "Above 2 categories of HT will also be vested with DDO power in respect of the staff of the teachers of the nearby LP Schools with lesser enrolment, which will be clustered around an LPS having 100+ enrolment. The DDO status of DEEO in respect of LPS teachers will cease."
